Finished this episode, season 2 episode 6 Isn’t it Romantic from the Golden Girls, and just had so many thoughts and feelings that I had to write them down. (SPOILERS!!)
今天看了《黄金女郎》第二季第六集，真的超级有感触。（有剧透！！）
This episode was mostly about Dorothy’s good friend Jean, a lesbian, who comes and visits the ladies in their home. Keep in mind that this is a TV show that first aired in 1985, and yet the storyline did nothing to make fun of Jean. In fact, every character respected her. To be honest, I think this one episode’s treatment of the LGBTQ community trumps many of the mainstream TV shows today; it gave every single character on the show the respect she deserved.
这一集主要讲了Dorothy的好朋友Jean，一位女同性恋，来到四位主角的家里访问的故事。一部1985年播出的电视剧，并没有因为她的性取向而有任何嘲讽或者捉弄Jean。相反，每一个角色都很尊重她。说实在的，这一集对LGBTQ这个话题的处理，甚至比很多现在的电视剧都要好，给足了每一个人她们应得的尊重。
I think the thing that moved me the most was the reaction of the girls towards the discovery of Jean’s sexuality:

Dorothy knew since college, but because of her respect for Jean, would make sure Jean was OK with her telling people before she told anyone. And there was no “Oh, you’re gay, do you like me” crap. She didn’t even think twice when offering Jean to sleep with with her, and didn’t treat her any differently from another female friend because of her sexuality.
Dorothy从大学就知道，而因为尊重Jean，所以在跟别人说之前都会问她她愿不愿意让别人知道。而且也没有那种所谓的“哦 你是同性恋你该不会喜欢我吧！”这样的情节，也毫不避讳一起睡觉，没有因为她的性取向有任何对她不一样的地方。
Sofia, as the oldest character, also knew from the beginning that Jean was gay. Her reaction was: “Some people like cats, some people like dogs. Frankly, I’d rather live with a lesbian than a cat.” When Dorothy asked Sofia what she would do if she found out one of her kids were gay, she said: “I wouldn’t love him one bit less; I would wish him every happiness.”
Sofia作为最老的角色，一开始就知道Jean是同性恋。她的反应是：“Some people like cats, some people like dogs. Frankly, I’d rather live with a lesbian than a cat.” 而当Dorothy问Sofia说“妈 如果你的孩子有同性恋，你会怎么样？”Sofia的回答是：“I wouldn’t love him one bit less; I would wish him every happiness.” 我不会因此而少爱他一分一毫；我会祝他所有的幸福。
Blanche’s reaction was, true to her character: “What!!! How could she like Rose and not me!!” And then began questioning Dorothy: “If you had to like one of us, wouldn’t you like me? I’m so elegant and classy!!” Ah yes, the beautiful and narcissistic Blanche.
Blanche的反应是“什么！！怎么会这样！！她怎么会喜欢Rose，不喜欢我！！”然后开始质问Dorothy：“如果你要喜欢一个人，你不会喜欢我吗？我多么优雅懂得世俗？？“ 哈哈哈哈不愧是喜剧人Blanche
Rose’s reaction was also extremely moving. Halfway through the story, Jean tells Dorothy that she might have feelings for Rose. But when Rose discovered this, she didn’t feel scared or disgusted by Jean, and instead just expressed her gratitude for Jean’s feelings and that she was straight. And then continued being her friend.
Rose的反应更令人感动。故事进行到一半的时候，Jean跟Dorothy说她好像喜欢上了Rose。到后面，Rose知道了这个以后，她并没有害怕或者厌恶Jean，只是表达了自己很感激Jean的喜欢，但是自己是直的。然后两位继续做好朋友。
Even though every other character made it clear that they were straight, but they didn’t make Jean’s sexuality the butt of any jokes on the show. In fact, each character acted according to their nature: Dorothy efficiently, Sofia sardonically, Blanche narcissistically, and Rose kindly. When you consider that this is a 1985 show, I feel nothing but more admiration, this show was seriously a classic beyond its time.
虽然每一位都表明了自己是直的，但是她们并没有丝毫的不尊重Jean，并没有大惊小怪，而每一位的反应也都符合了人物设定：Dorothy的凌厉，Sofia的毒舌，Blanche的自恋，Rose的单纯善良。想到这是1985年播出的我就更加欣赏了，这部剧真的是一个超越时代的宝藏。
Hopefully one day, all shows and movies can respect everyone, regardless of their sexuality or race or age or body🌈
希望有一天所有人啊电视剧啊电影啊 都可以尊重每一个人，无论性取向肤色年龄身材🌈
