Finished Squid Game today. (small spoilers)

What can I say, it wasn’t bad, it just also wasn’t really good either. I think it was mostly because the show seemed to really want to dive into the niches of the human soul, but it also chose to do so in an ordinary and already well-worn out way, so much so that it seemed like a spinoff of the Hunger Games, and wasn’t really that intriguing.
The things about this show I found most interesting were the three main characters: the main male lead (456), Cho Sang-woo (218), and Kang Sae-byeok (067)

First, 456. The show kept trying to make him seem like this sweet and kind-hearted person, but this trait was so weirdly developed that sometimes it seemed more like he was just faking it (even though the ending was super saint-like and kind, the process there seemed like he was faking it at times). I feel like this is also somehow one of the defining characteristics of the male lead, and seemed pretty realistic: when something doesn’t threaten ourselves, kindness is great and preferred. When something does threaten ourselves (like the old man 001 threaten 456), then living is the most important thing.
Then there was Sang-woo, who I felt like should’ve been the ultimate winner. He was smart and cunning and willing to do cruel things; these are the people who generally succeed in life. We are lead and chose, oftentimes, to believe that kindness will win, but most of the time in life the people who will stop at nothing to win are the ones who win.

And then there is Sae-byeok. I disagree and dislike the way the character died. She was the character with the most at stake and the one who had the strongest will to live, and the one who had gone through probably the most hardships, and this is how she dies? This just doesn’t fit with her characterisation. She was different from everyone else; she had no desire to help anyone else (although she did help 456 once, but only once), and she was entirely focused on winning, so in order to kill a strong character the show had to use something as ridiculous as a shard of glass? I can’t with this death.

Anyway, I think the show was seriously way too long. If each episode would’ve been 20 minutes long it may have made the show a super good one, but because it is so long the show just lost some of its steam halfway and I got bored. So if I had to recommend this to someone I would say 3/5 stars.
Finally (I promise this is the end): Jung Ho-yeon is so cool OMG!!!!! I’m fangirling over her so much!!!! I LOVE WOMEN!
Happy Tuesday!!
