Finished MacGruber (2021), and absolutely completely loved it. Minor spoilers. Just kidding, major spoilers, or at least in the place I mark out. This is a review. Why are you reading a review if you haven’t watched the show yet, guys? Also, many, many references to the show itself, so watch it and come back to this review. Honestly. Watch it, in the wise words of MacGruber, you big pile of turd.
看完了 MacGruber (2021)，并且非常喜欢它。轻微剧透。装什么，超级多的剧透，至少在我标记的地方。这是一篇评论。如果你还没有看过这剧，你看啥评论啊好兄弟？还有，很多，很多这剧的梗，因此，请立马去看这剧然后再来看此评论。看它，用 MacGruber 的话来说，你这坨大粪。
Honestly, the show is so in tune with what the movie was it sort of felt like no time had gone by at all, and the ten years in between this show and the movie was nothing more than a small pause in the genius of Will Forte, Jorma Taccone, and John Solomon.
说真的，感觉这剧跟电影真的完全就是没有隔阂，感觉隔得十年不过是一秒钟，一点时间都不影响Will Forte, Jorma Taccone, 和John Solomon这几个天才发挥。
See, I watched the show with about 0 expectations. I loved the film, but can also acknowledge why it didn’t do so well in the theatres, because it was a terrible film, from a critic’s point of view. Honestly, from plot to aesthetic, there really isn’t much going for MacGruber (2010). But it was an SNL film, and while I love the show, turning 5 minute sketches into a full-blown movie requires much more than just humour. But the movie had two things going for it, which is why I think the show is so much better and deserves the world.
就，我原本看这部剧是真的没有期待值。我超爱电影，但是我也理解为啥电影在影院没有恨成功，毕竟是一部烂到精髓的电影了。真的，从剧情到美观，《百战天虫》（2010）是真的都不咋样。毕竟是一部由《周六夜现场》小品改编的电影，就算我这种SNL的钟爱粉也要承认把一个5分钟的段子变成一部电影太难了，需要的不仅仅是幽默了。但是电影有两处很厉害的地方，也是我认为电影的续集这部电视剧为什么比电影好那么多。
Number one: the actors. Even the absolutely absurd plot line of the original film made sense when Will Forte became MacGruber, when Kristen Wiig put on that 70s wig, when Ryan Phillipe picked up a gun and a celery stick. The characters and the absolute seriousness with which the actors play these characters with is what made the original film so endearing and probably why it has become a cult classic. The same actors come back for the show, and they just make sense together. They’re just hilarious together, and completely fearless.
第一：演员们。就连原电影的那个愚蠢到起飞并且完全没有道理的剧情，当Will Forte变成MacGruber，当Kristen Wiig带上那顶70年底的假发，当Ryan Phillipe拿起一把枪和一根芹菜的时候，都变得那么可以理解那么好笑。这些角色以及这些演员们饰演角色时候的完全严肃才是让原电影那么有趣并且能够成为现在的经典的原因。电视剧的演员都是原班人马，所以他们还是依旧完全完美配合。他们在一起的时候，有的不仅仅是搞笑，是为了喜剧的完全奋不顾身的勇气。

Number two: the characters. The original sketch is super simple: MacGruber is a terrible human beings on all accounts, arrogant and ignorant, the worst combination a human being can be. Vicki is supportive and kind, but also not really the type of leader you would hope is trying to stop an explosion, weak and sort of in awe of MacGruber. The movie expands on this, but because of the time limit, sets only the precedence for the full out, completely rounded characters of the TV show. This is partially why the show is such an amazing sequel. In the show, MacGruber goes from being like “I WILL HAVE SEX WITH YOU” like he was in the film, to “CUM ON MY FACE.”
第二：角色。原始的小品超级简单，就是MacGruber是一个特别无语的人类，就是一整个普信。Vicki则是一个没有主见的善良、永远支持MacGruber的女孩。电影因为时间有限，只能对于两个角色进行一点点的探讨，但是为后面的电视剧铺好垫，所以电视剧里的角色才能如此全面、真实，这也是为什么这个剧是一个很好的续集。剧中，MacGruber从电影里的 “我可以跟你做爱”变成“在我脸上射”。
…Actually, on second thought, MacGruber didn’t change that much. But to some extent, he did. And we as the audience understand why he is the way he is now. Because his mom was killed right in front of him, and, as we later find out, by his dad. That for sure would mess a human up. From a psychology standpoint, MacGruber’s obsession with ripping throats out and blood and death and gore and sex starts to make sense, because he had a dad who hated him and lied to him and also killed his mother, the one person who actually loved him and cared for him. And I think MacGruber did change. He goes from being a loner, (“MacGruber don’t play like homie and homie don’t play like that.” ICONIC) a person who is both subtly misogynistic and definitely a licentious prick, to a person who is still relatively inconsiderate of Vicki (VICKI YOU DESERVE BETTER) but accepts that he has family now, and is honestly probably going to be a better father than most people get. Seriously, after seeing the amount of people he killed and also because I’m writing a paper on PTSD, I just feel bad for the poor guy. He has gone through way too much, and is seriously not given enough credit for his history.
…… 再想想感觉好像MacGruber也并没有改改变太多。但是还是有改变的。而且，我们作为观众终于理解他为什么是那个他了。因为我们得知他的妈妈当着他的面被谋杀，而且，剧透，还是他爸爸杀的。试问哪个人经历过这种事情还能不有一点点变态？从心理学的角度来看，MacGruber对于撕喉和血和杀人和性的痴迷也开始有道理了，因为他有一个讨厌他并且跟他撒谎还杀了他妈妈的爸爸，而他妈妈是唯一一个真正爱他的人。他从一个孤僻的人（“MacGruber 不要像 homie 那样玩，而 homie 也不要那样玩”。太 经典了）一个既有一点点厌恶女性又放荡不羁的人，成为一个仍然相对来说不体谅Vicki的人（VICKI 你值得更好）但接受他现在有家人的事实。他真的还可能会成为一个比大多数人得到的父亲更好的父亲。说真的，在看到他杀了这么多人之后，也可能是因为我正在写一篇关于 创伤后应激障碍

Piper, or “Checkers,”changes as well, but his character changes are much more subtle. He still is the same hard, iron-wrought smart military man, except now he had a family and people he wants to protect, which makes him so much less accepting of MacGruber’s crap, and creates some really interesting moments where he’s basically just rolling his eyes at the stuff that comes out of the mouths of his friends (namely Vicki and MacGruber). He was, in the film, a sort of representation of the audience’s reaction, and remains so in the show, but to an even higher degree, which just makes him even more funny to watch. I look back at the notes I made while watching the show, and just see my notes multiple times where I don’t write anything except: “Wow, Piper’s not enjoying this LMAO!”

Vicki’s character progression is honestly to me, as an audience member, the best. In the movie, she was just sort of the type of person who would hand MacGruber any ridiculous crap he wanted and follow through with all of his ridiculous plans, while basically just blindly doing it because she loved him (I still don’t get why a beautiful, talented, kind, sweet, considerate, PERFECT woman like Vicki Gloria St. Elmo would like MacGruber, but fine I guess I’ll just have to accept that the Belle always ends up with the Beast). In the show though, she’s moved on (kinda), and is now so much stronger than the old Vicki ever was. Now, she stands up for herself, telling MacGruber that her husband now (the honestly so much better than MacGruber, Fasoose) treats her well and actually listens to her, and that he “could stand to learn a little something from him.” When she finds that she could have a chance to save the world, she takes it, and blows off MacGruber’s worries with a simple “plans change,” when the old her would’ve immediately agreed with him and left for safety. She is also stronger physically (thank you to Wonder Woman 1984 for making Wiig so perfectly good for all the action sequences in this show), and even pulls a MacGruber when she tears out someone’s throat. She is still relatively ignorant of the world (but not arrogant like MacGruber), and is still wayy too in the dark about MacGruber’s actually abilities, but she’s so much stronger and we really see how her character has changed in the ten years since the story was left off (the film). Also: how is this woman so adorable!!!!
作为观众，我觉得Vicki 的角色发展是最好的。在电影中，她就是那种会向 MacGruber 提供他想要的任何荒谬废话并执行他所有荒谬计划的人，而基本上只是因为她爱他而盲目地这样做（我仍然不明白为什么像 Vicki Gloria St. Elmo 这样美丽、有才华、善良、甜美、体贴、完美的女人会喜欢 MacGruber，我想我只能接受这种美女总是跟野兽在一起的剧情）。不过，在剧中，她比以前的 Vicki 强大得多。现在，她为自己挺身而出，告诉 MacGruber，她的丈夫现在（老实说，比 起MacGruber，她的现任Fasoose 好太多太多了）对她很好，而且会听她说话，他“可以向他学习一些东西”。当她发现自己有机会拯救世界时，她抓住了这个机会，用简单的一句“计划会改变”打消了MacGruber的担忧。当年的她肯定会立即同意他并离开的。她的身体也更强壮（感谢《神奇女侠 1984》让 Wiig 非常适合本剧中的所有动作片段），甚至还血MacGruber撕掉了某人的喉咙。她对这个世界还是比较无知（但不像 MacGruber 那样傲慢），对 MacGruber 的实际能力仍然一无所知，但她强大了很多，我们真的看到她的性格在故事发生后的十年中发生了怎样的变化（电影）。而且：她真的好可爱啊啊啊
Also, can I just say that Vicki has some amazing prose? Like, it doesn’t always make sense, but it’s always beautiful when it comes out of her mouth, for some reason.
还有，就是说Vicki的语言表达能力也太优美了把！就是有些时候就算不太切合当下的情况或者根本没有道理，但是从她嘴里出来就是好优美我也不知道为啥。

The show is a good sequel, because not only does it give us more new characters, it allows us to expand on the old, and manages to continue their story without it seeming out of character. And the show isn’t just a continuation of the characters. The show manages to carry forward the very R-rated-ness of the film that made the film such a cult classic in the first place. The show continues to curse at every possible interval, continues to ensure that the gore of MacGruber (stabbing people through the head, ripping throats, skinning people) doesn’t get lost, continues to make sex the topic of everything MacGruber does (696969) and remains true to its core, or what Will Forte calls: Peacock giving the creators free rein. The show doesn’t adhere to any conventional humour that I’m aware of, and is so comfortable in its weird, gory skin, that you really can’t help but love it. And honestly, the plot twists and one liners in this show are still awesome, and still the most hilarious thing ever.
这部剧真的是一部不错的续集，因为它不仅为我们提供了更多新角色，还让我们能够扩展旧角色，并继续了他们的故事，而不会出戏。而且这剧不仅仅是角色的延续，还完全发扬了这部电影十八禁的特殊魅力。继续在每一个可能的时间间骂人，继续确保 MacGruber 继续血腥（刺人头部，撕裂喉咙，剥人皮），继续让性成为 MacGruber 所做的一切的主题 (696969)并忠于其核心，真的像 Will Forte 所说的：Peacock让创作者自由发挥。该节目不遵循我所知道的任何传统幽默，并且在其怪异、血腥的皮肤中非常舒适，真的会情不自禁地爱上它。剧中的情节曲折和台词仍然很棒，而且仍然超级好笑。
I also love this really subtle touch of the creators at the end. At the end, MacGruber’s mom says to him: “You’re about to go on the most important mission of your life.” This can be interpreted two ways: if the show is canceled, then it can be seen as MacGruber becoming a father and how that’s obviously really important considering the shortcomings of his own father, or this is the show’s writers setting us up for another season. Crossing my fingers and hoping there is a second season right now. PLEASE, PEACOCK, I BESEECH YOU, MAKE A SEASON TWO AND MAKE MY LITTLE MACGRUBER LOVING HEART HAPPY!

Finally, thank you to all of these people for making me so happy when the SNL Christmas show was canceled and replaced with a few new sketches and runnings of the old ones. I usually love the Christmas show so much, so this is the only worthy replacement in my eyes. Also, thank you for these people for making Kristen Wiig come out of the hole she hides in whenever she doesn’t have work. Just, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. You have singlehandedly, with that black outfit and the black hair but also the blond hair (who am I kidding the entire 4th and 5th episodes) that you put Kristen Wiig in, made my 2021 bearable and, dare I say it, enjoyable. Thank you to Kristen Wiig for blessing us with new material and her presence at the very end of 2021 and making my world so much brighter with this amazing show.
